Primer Magazine Shield

I know Dillon's tech support is swamped these days, so i'm reaching out to other Forum users for a little help.  When fillng the Primer Magazine for the first time on my new XL650, a primer got jammed in the top of the tube.  I'm not sure if some primers went in the tube before the one that jammed or not, but I took the tube out to clear it and now it won't go back in all the way.  So I'm trying to figure out how to see if there is something in the bottom of the Magazine Shield blocking it. Is the Magazine Shield threaded into the housing, or do I have to take the whole assembly apart to see what the problem is?

Thanks for any advice!

 I'd remove the entire assembly.

I blew a primer stack a couple years ago for the first time.
(short story, I did something very stupid on the upstroke )

That outer tube is pressed into the aluminum housing. There are
'teeth'. (I can't think of the proper term just now).

Now, the easy way to get that tube out would be to blow a primer stack.
I don't recommend that. It sounds like a 38 going off by your ear and
in my case the outer sheild ended up buried halfway in the wall board
ceiling above my head. It did its job.

SO, you wont be able to pull that outer sheild off with much ease at
all. If your in doubt at all be SAFE and remove that entire assembly
and I PRESUME you removed the inner primer tube fill tube and
have no primers inside.

If so, proceed to remove and take the eentire lower end apart, the wheel with the holes and all. You should then be able to find the evil doer.

If you still have issues I just tell everyone I see here to head to
Brian Enos forums as there tends to be more people checking in there and a better chance of getting help sooner.

Plus we can post press porn. I should post my picture of my blown primer tube.

Steve:

I suspect that when you removed the primer magazine, a few primers got dumped in the bottom of the magazine shield.  That would prevent the brass end of the primer magazine from protruding through the base of the primer feedbody housing.  If that's the case, I think the best thing is to remove the primer assembly, invert the magazine shield and dump it out.
You should be able to see light through it.  To remove it, you need to first remove the shell plate.  Once that's off, there are two allen screws you need to remove.
The assembly will be dangling by the failsafe rod of the powder measure, you can remove the rod if you wish.  If you were to change your primer disk to another size primer, you would have to do all this stuff anyway.
Be sure and wear safety glasses when working around primers, a friend lost an eye a while back when a primer exploded in the primer magazine, all primers detonated, and all went into his eye, wasn't wearing safety glasses.  I don't check this forum often, if you need to email me, emptech@yahoo.com, hope I don't get spammed some more!

Thanks for the help guys!  I was pretty sure that's what I would have to do, but since I'm new to the 650 I just wanted some confirmation. I read all the assembly instructions again and found a note that said the shield should never be removed from the housing, and I also see in the parts breakdown that it is not sold separately.  Guess I should have read them closer in the first place! On closer inpsection of some of the primers I found a small burr around the edge, almost like the punch wasn't quite sharp enough to take all the flashing off during manufacturing.  I remember there were a couple of primers that just didn't "feel" right when I was picking them up in the tube, so my guess is that's what caused my problem.  I will definitely watch for that in the future.

This was my first post to any of the Forums, and I didn't know what to expect, so I really appreciate you taking the time to help out!
