Primer not seating properly

When my 38 special shell enters station 2, it is properly filled with powder. However, the primer is not seating flush and sticks out. This is a new machine and I did not change the factory setting.

How can I adjust the primer seating?

Thanks,

At the end of the upstroke of the handle, you have to push the handle forward as a separate motion to seat the primer into the case. Just lifting the handle up is not sufficient.

I had this same problem and I thought I would share a little.  I bought a bench to host the SDB, I was poor and it was cheap.  It is a metal frame with a 3/4 inch pressboard top.  The top was tied to the frame at the corners (it is about 24 in deep and about 48 in long).

What I found was that the pressboard was flexing on the upstroke to seat the primer.  This took force away from the upstroke and unless I was very careful, it would not seat the primers fully.  I had about 4 failures per 500 rds.

This was mostly evident on my .40 reloads.  It would cause misfires on my Glock 23 as the striker would waste energy seating the primer and not light up the primer.  A second strike would generally fire the round.

Not wanting to replace the bench at this time, this is what I did...my father would say that I did a "farmer fix".   I got a short piece of bar stock steel and used C-Clamps to tie down the leading edge of the top to the frame.  This made the problem go away.  I will probably modify the bench in a more conventional fashion later.
