Primer pickup question
Quote from Reloader on March 11, 2013, 10:31 pmRookie reloader here... I have a 550b. When i got the reloader it was shipped with the large primer slide installed. I switched it out to the small primer slide and my first batch went fine. I switched the small slide to the large one and i'm having problems.
It seems like the slide is not going back far enough to pick up a new primer. The new primer falls out on the slide after the slide goes forward.
How do i adjust this?
Thanks!

Then it slides down so that the bottom of the plastic tip almost touches the top of the white delrin primer retaining pin. This is most likely cause.

Quote from Reloader on March 13, 2013, 9:34 pmThe primer magazine is properly installed. There is a little set screw - according to the manual it's 13961, slide pickup adjustment screw. I backed that out slightly and it seems to be much better, but still not consistently feeding primers.
Am i on the right track? What is the procedure to adjust this screw?
Thanks for the quick reply!

Quote from Reloader on August 10, 2013, 12:40 amI don't have an answer to your problem but I am experiencing almost the same thing. I am also a newbie but have been getting quite a bit of experience loading thousands of rounds of 9mm, .38 Spl and .357 Mag on a Lee Pro 1000 progressive and now loading hundreds of rounds of .44 Mag on the Dillon RL550B. My first attempts resulted in a jammed Large Pistol Magnum primer jammed in the Large Magazine Tube. Following stated procedures, I abandoned that magazine and ordered another and new tips. I proceeded to load 300 rounds of hot .44 mags by putting the primers in the cup with a Locksmith's tweezers. Got the new magazine tube in today but had no better luck than before. Got this press used so I don't know which size slide is in use since Dillon does not believe in putting part numbers or designations on their parts, for some reason. With the magazine tube in place the primer system seems to function perfectly...as long as it's empty. Put even ONE primer in the magazine and what you described above is exactly what happens. I have NO idea why or HOW to correct it. I have an email into tech support and am awaiting their reply. BTW, with an empty magazine tube the primer cup lines up perfectly with the magazine tube. With a primer in it, it doesn't go back far enough...just like you said.
