Primer Problems

I have recently purchased a Super 1050 and I am very happy overall, however I have a lot of bad primer insertions (3 to 4%).

I am reloading 40 SW, mixed used brass, and CCI small pistol primers.

Is there a trick that will help avoid this ?

Can you describe in detail what specifically is wrong with the mis-seated primers? What is the headstamps of the cases with mis-seated primers?

Does your primer pocket have sharp edges on the rim? If it does you will have to bevel the edge. I had that problem with .223 until I changed the swager factory setting to a noticeable bevel. I have not had any problems since.

I'm having the same problem with my 1050 doing 9mm, where I'm not having the problem with the 223 toolhead. Long story short, about every 5th primer is not seating at all. I have adjusted the primer bar down far enough to do a decent seating depth, but cannot figure out why i keep losing primers...Once again, the head stamps are all comm. , winchester, remmy's, and federal. No military cases are used.

Nextreme,

Keep in mind that a commercial brand no longer ensures a non-crimped primer pocket. However, even with a crimped primer pocket, the machine should crush a primer trying to seat it. Get any primers on the bench under the machine? Is the rubber sleeve on the rear of the primer slide present? Is the half-moon stop oriented to stop rearward travel of the primer slide? Try cycling 15-20 primers through the machine, no brass, just pick them off with tweezers. See if any bobbles.

So i found the problems with my 1050 and the primers...The rubber sleeve has cracked in half and fell off...Looks like I need to get a new one.
Also, the other problem i had was that a few cci primers where jacked, to be technical, they where not the regular size...some how they got "oblonged". Nothing screws up that auto prime like a jacked up primer.

What part number is the the rubber sleeve?

This rubber hose is merely 1/8" automotive vacuum line. Go to any auto parts store, buy one foot, should be a lifetime supply.

Where can you get the 1/8" automotive vacuum hose?  I've tried a couple of auto parts stores and lowes and have come up short.  They don't go down that small.

OUt here it is an off-the roll product. Try an automotive paint supply store, or a NAPA shop-both carry a wider variety.
