Primer Slide not always loading

Hi there,
I have a brand new square deal now for more than one year which I load approx 1000 rounds per month of .38 super or 9mm. In the last 4 months however, I had failed loads due to the primer slide assembly (20125) not always sliding back to cycle a primer at stage 2, or when it supposed to be putting this into the shell. I pull the lever, the primer assembly goes back to load a primer, but this gets stuck up along the way, and does not return to put the primer into stage 2. I disassemble the reloader, and check the primer system, cannot find any issue and this always cycles correctly for about 20 rounds after I put this back. This primer failure to cycle happens even when the reloader is very clean, so I have ruled out dirt or grime as the issue. This happens more frequently now and I have stopped reloading as this is causing too much headache.

I always clean the reloader part by part (and assembly by assembly) and test the whole process prior to actually reloading. As the issue maybe with worn out parts, I purchased the replacement kit and put this on. After 2000 rounds, the issue has returned. I used a mix of old and new replacement parts (checking springs in particular), and the whole process ran OK for about 1000 rounds. I use different oils (and graphite powder) to make sure that this issue is not with lubrication. I also check that the primer is going into the primer cup and cannot find an issue in here. The primer slide bearing and plastic parts are also not the issue (both old and new parts).

Please are you able to advise on this issue? I am about to give up on the square deal, and just buy another reloader.

Thank you in advance and regards,

Dennis

Remove the primer feed from the frame, then detach the primer slide from the feed system. Measure from the underside of the primer slide to the top of the primer cup using calipers. It should measure at 1.410", +/- .003". If too tall, use a clamp or vise to reseat the cup and punch to the bottom of the slide, then retighten the set screw.

I recently ordered large and small dispensing tips (invoice 2695731) for the Square Deal that I have been using for over twenty years... the new tips are longer and do not appear to have the seating flange that is present on my older primer dispensing tips. Should I remove the primer feed from the frame, then detach the primer slide from the feed system. Measure from the underside of the primer slide to the top of the primer cup using calipers checking to see that it measures at 1.410", +/- .003" and if too tall, use a clamp or vise to re-seat the cup and punch to the bottom of the slide, then re-tighten the set screw, or, is the tips different for the Square Deal as compared to the Square Deal B?

Thanks, will try this weekend and will advise. Regards, Dennis
