Primer slide not retracting fully?

I've got an older Square Deal "B" in 44 Remington Mag that I probably tinkered with the adjustments too often when I was younger. I've decided to get back into shooting and reloading, so I've dusted the SD off (and the Ruger Blackhawk) and I'm trying to get it back in shape.

I solved one issue (bad height on the prime cap) with the help of phone support, but decided to send this to the forums.

When the Automatic Primer System is removed from the main block of the SD, pulling the primer slide does put a primer in the cup. But when the primer system is installed, pulling down on the lever does not load a primer.

Thinking that the lever wasn't moving the primer cup far enough, I pulled on the primer slide a little when the lever was in the down most position (where the primer gets loaded). That gave me a primer in the cup.

What gives? Should I try shimming the slide or the over travel block -- or is there something else that should be adjusted?

The problem is internal, not in the primer system. After removing the primer feed from the machine, there is a ramp inside the shaft that the roller goes up and down on. At the bottom of this ramp is a white plastic spring-loaded block. There is a burr from the bottom of this ramp extending over the top of the white block. This burr is preventing the white block from pushing the primer slide out the last little bit. Use a pocket knife blade to scrape away the burr until the white block springs out towards you.

Okay, I see the burr -- I'll get to work on it. Thanks!

Even though this is seven years old, I've been banging my head against the wall with this exact problem on a used SDB I bought so... THANK YOU!!! I have been in contact with Dillon support three times now and all I've been told is primer cup height and adjustment screw... primer cup height and adjustment screw... primer cup height and adjustment screw. On my last phone call I suggested that it may have to do with the overtravel block. I was told... primer cup height and adjustment screw. Fed up, I had my local shop place an order for the overtravel block. I picked it up this morning and had a heck of a time getting it out of the pocket it sits in. I found this thread when I searched on how to get it back in. Turns out that nicely machined radius over the block (the burr) isn't supposed to be there. I filed it off so the block moves freely on top of the spring (something I didn't know it did), reassembled the press, and just churned some 38sp that was primed flawlessly without a hitch.
