Primer system failure
Quote from Reloader on July 3, 2017, 12:05 amMy 650 hasn't been running well lately. Lots of problems with cases feeding, shell plate indexing but today the primer system on my 650 has started to fail completely. I took it apart, cleaned everything and replaced these parts.
https://1drv.ms/i/s!AivmmOhbKa5ii9JbxUAS4NwWswUl5wIt's still failing, as seen here:
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AivmmOhbKa5ii9JcgV7WfkUCIoAZ8gI've had the press for about two years, and loaded approximately 20,000 rounds.

I suggest that you phone us when you can be in front of the machine if at all possible, as this makes it easier to assist you. Worst case, contact us for a return authorization, and ship us the primer feed. Likewise, we can inspect the entire machine if you prefer.

Quote from Reloader on August 20, 2017, 9:56 amI have the exact same problem as seen in the video from IkeStarnes!
I replaced the parts but the primer system doesn't work and the pin is not snapping back into the index plate.
What is the solution to this problem?
Thanks

Quote from Reloader on August 20, 2017, 2:37 pmIs this a problem of failure to properly grease the Primer Disc Pin, #4 on page 53 of the manual? Or failure of one of the springs?

Quote from Reloader on August 22, 2017, 2:57 pmI don't have a clue what else I can do. I replaced all the parts (including Springs) and still have the same problem like IkeStarnes shows in his video.

Quote from Reloader on August 22, 2017, 3:45 pmI do not know what Dillon sees in that video. Here is what I see. Or think I see. Referring to page #53 of the XL650 manual.
Primer Disc Pin #4 is not all the way into Primer Feedbody Housing #12. It appears to be up just a bit so that the Index Arm Bowed Washer #5 is not putting any pressure on Primer Indexing Arm #6.
I would remove the Primer System Assembly and remove Primer Support Shim #16. Then while pushing the Pin #4 in, put Shim #16 back in, making sure it engages the groove in Pin #4. That should compress Washer #5 just a bit. Be sure to grease the pin as the Dillon video on servicing the XL650 shows. The unit should function normally.
If Pin #4 will not push in far enough, perhaps there is a burr. Or perhaps it is snagging in the Shim groove and may need to be wobbled a bit to get it to go on through.
