Primer system failure

PreviousPage 2 of 2

It may be easier to diagnose if you take it off the machine. I just took mine off to play with it. Have to remove the shellplate of course. My spring returns the arm just fine. It indexes on the ball bearing just fine. Perhaps the Shim is not in the groove on the pin and is gripping it so tight that the spring will not return the arm?

Hope some of this helps.

I'll try all of your suggestions and will see what happens. Thanks for your help, Bucolic_Buffalo !

After our primer detonation, the Primer Disk and its surrunding areas needed hard cleaning. There where burrs on Primer Disk and above it on underside of Primer Freebody Housing. We honed the Primer disk on both sides, burrs inside Primer Freebody Housing where trimmed away with a fine Instrument File. After Washing and drying we greased according to Lubrication recommendations.
Used a fresch Priming Arm and Shime.
Now it works like a charm.

I also had problems with primers failing to index, mine was the index arm failing to move to the next hole. After trying several things I honed the edges of the “tooth” on the index arm which seemed to have a rough edge. It seems to be working fine now, but I haven’t run enough cases through to be 100% certain.

Have You had a Primer Detonatin in the Primer Wheel the Wheel may need Deburring with a Stone, Primer Magazine must be replaced with a new one.
We also had to take away Burrs inside Priming Housing with a small File.
Regreased and mounted it now works like a charm.
