Primers jumping out of the cup or loading sideways......

Looking for any help I can get.  Recently I've had an issue with primers either loading sideways, or now more frequently completely jumping out of the cup completely......I went thru Gary's "human manual" videos and did the following:

Cleaned the bottom of the primer slide,

Clean and lube the primer retaining pin,

Checked the op rod bracket height,

Adjust the blue wing nut,

Greasing the op rod,

and reset the cup and punch.

I still have the problem, most often its the primer completely jumping out of the cup and it seems like the primer slide is a little "jerky".

I'm using mixed head stamp 38 special brass with this run of 38 reloads but have had the same problem with 9mm.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Does the primer retaining cup spring have powder granules in it, making the cup "pop" upward?

The cup should operate up and down smoothly over the primer punch (no grittyness).

To remove the cup/spring/punch extract the set screw on the right side. Don't let the assembly escape!

Make sure the slide is smooth. Wipe it down so that any residual power doesn't make it sticky. This could make the slide jerky. It should be one smooth motion.  I would take the slide out, wipe all sides down and reinstall. See if it is a smooth motion.

Thanks....I took the primer assembly apart, cleaned everything, and reset and re-measured the primer cup height in a vice by hand instead of using the method where it stays in the press.....and made sure there wasn't any powder in the spring.  I still have the same problem but the incidence is greatly reduced, I loaded about 300 rounds and had the primer jump out of the cup about 3 times and the primer load sideways about 2 times.  Part of the problem I think are the primers, I was using some Wolf brand primers for the first hundred but ran out and switched to S&B, seems to happen more with Wolf.  I think what I might do is order a new primer cup and spring and a new primer slide return spring.

I hate to ask, but are you trying to break a speed record for how long it takes to make a box of 50? When I got my first Dillon's I had similar issues and they were cured by slowing down just a smidge.

No, I'm not trying to push it as far as speed goes and try to make my up and down stokes even and consistant with no jerking.....I know that can make a difference.

Without any cases in the shellplate, and with primers in the tube, cycle the handle. DO any primers flip? do you hear a click or snap? If yes, the ,pst l;ikely cause is the primer slide stop screw needs to be tweaked, so that the primer cup comes up through the platform without catching on the edge of the platform hole.  This screw is located on the back of the primer feed body. Look fr a protruding bolt with a jam nut. The pin in the rear of the primer slide contacts this screw, stopping forward travel of the primer slide.

The other possible cause can be in how you assemble the primer feed on the loader. You want to insert the primer cup up into the hole in the platform, and hold it there while you raise the handle. Then place the primer feed housing over the primer slide and onto the frame. Then finger tighten the two knurled nuts. The primer slide aligns the primer feed body, so the primer slide tracks straight.

This sounds like an alignment issue.

I would try what was posted before me.
