Primers not being picked up
Quote from Reloader on October 25, 2017, 9:17 pmHi, I'm suddenly running into a problem where my large pistol primers aren't being picked up. Below is a video of it happening. This machine has been working for at least a couple years now with no problem so I can't figure out why the primers aren't being pushed up as the cup goes to enter the feed "house". Ideas? Here's the video:

Quote from Reloader on October 25, 2017, 9:25 pmIt looks like the primer shield cap (knurled nut on top of the primer assembly) is screwed down too far. It's forcing the primer magazine too far down and it's keeping the slide from going back. Loosen it up a touch and see if it goes up. If so the slide should clear. If it doesn't work you might need to replace the (#14003) Flexible Orifice, Large Red.

Quote from Reloader on October 25, 2017, 11:02 pmHi, thanks for the response. I tried taking the knurled knob off the top and very gently placing the tube back in and tightening down the knob just enough so that the top of it aligns the tube but doesn't put any downward pressure. No help. I then looked through my bag of items I got with the press and it turns out I have an extra red end. I replaced it with the new one and it does the same thing. 🙁 Highly frustrating.

Quote from Reloader on October 25, 2017, 11:25 pmOk I figured it out. It appears that even with a tightened down knurled knob, the plastic characteristics of the red head keep it from going further than it should. The real issue is that the primer seating cup was too high. After more inspection of the total travel distance of the cup on the spring, it became apparent that the primer punch set screw had backed out and wasn't holding the primer seating punch within it's max height limits for this thing to operate correctly. Once I redid the set screw correctly, everything is back to correct operation. Ultimately you started me down the right road of thinking, so thanks for that. 🙂

Quote from Reloader on October 26, 2017, 12:25 pmSorry that I forgot to mention the primer cup possibly being a little high. I haven't encountered that one yet, but I've only loaded about 12-13k rounds on my 550b. You're welcome for the help. It would have only been a matter of a short time before Dillon chimed in and sent you straight to the issue.
