primers & powder Q's

Howdy fellas - complete newbie here jumpin' into this reloading thing with both feet.  I just received my 650 today and will be setting it up this weekend at the huntin' lodge.  I will be reloading 223 and 308 calibers for starters and am in the process of purchasing my supplies.

From what I've read, the Winchester 748 powder will be a good load to use in both calibers.  Considering that I just ordered up 5000 223 brass cases and thousands more 55 gr FMJ-BT rounds for the little guns and for the 308, I've got 3000 brass cases with 147 gr FMJ-BT's coming.

First question for the trivia types, how many 223 shells will a lb of powder load?

and to follow up - how many 308 shells will a lb of powder load?

This will determine how much powder I need to purchase.

Also, I'm looking for primers and was told that CCI's are a good reliable primer.  Any rebuttals to that statement?  Then looking at the CCI's for a small rifle (223), I noticed that their are two types.  A standard primer and a military grade primer (#34 and 41) for semi autos.  Since I have 3 AR's I'm loading for in the 223 class and a FN-FAL 308 - all semi autos, do I need to use these primers or will the standard primers do the job?

CCI claims that standard primers my be susceptible to "slam-fires" .  Any comments out there?

223- approximately 275 rounds per pound

308- approximately 150 rounds per pound

As long as primers are seated slightly below flush, standard primers are fine. CCI military primers do give added peace of mind.

For future referance
1 pound of powder is = to 7000 grains
