Problem with .223 reloading
Quote from Reloader on August 26, 2012, 1:14 amI've been using my Dillon Square Deal for years, reloading thousands of
.45 Colt. No problems, works just great.
Now I'm using a new Dillon 550-B, primarily to reload .223 for my AR-15, and I'm getting very frustrated. I set up the press exactly as the instructions said, however, each time I place .223 brass in stage one to de-prime, it wobbles around and doesn't stay straight. The shellplate IS the right one for .223, and I've tightened up the shellplate bolt until I can just turn the index star with my thumb. I've adjusted the cartridge spring countless times, and now I'm at wits end. I don't know what to do. I'm sure there's a fix for this, Dillon makes the best product. I wish I had a Dillon expert sitting next to me, but that's wishful thinking.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong, or not doing?

Quote from Reloader on August 27, 2012, 4:08 pmFor best assistance I do recommend that you phone us when you can be in front of the machine. Beyond that, make sure that the identifying number stamped on the shellplate is on the top, and that the adjustable spring at station one is adjusted to be within .002-.003" of touching the rim of the case. Shellplate and locator buttons both #3.

Quote from Reloader on October 8, 2012, 10:21 pmcouple of question's. have you cleaned the base of the press ,under the index shell plate? more specifically , removed the ball and spring in the base and made sure that there is no powder residue build up in the hole. . i've found that this can occur and throw off the adjustment for indexing ...to much spring pressure under the ball bearing, ie indexing is really stiff and the plate wobbles because it is adjusted to high........Second idea is , is the Aluminum insert that you use to index the shell plate worn out where the hardened bolt hold's everything together. ??.... you've made over 25,000 index's, even powder is abrasive over time...I'm running into the same sort of wear on my oldest 450.
Hope this help's
