Problem With Dillon .223 Dies - Need Help
Quote from Reloader on May 10, 2011, 10:01 pmHello, I'm running Dillon carbide .223 dies in my RL-550. It's been fine for 10,000 rounds give or take when all of the sudden the re-size/deprime die is pressing a dimple in the side of the case. It's hard to describe, but it looks like a Tic-Tac is stuck inside the die. I took the die out, cleaned the inside and made sure the decap pin and the ball were tight and still I get the dimples. I'm at a loss...any suggestions? Thanks- Bill

Quote from Reloader on May 11, 2011, 2:37 pmExactly where is the dimple located? If on the shoulder, a far more likely culprit is excess case lube on the shoulders of the case. Does the dimple disappear if you remove the decap assembly and just size a case?

Quote from Reloader on May 11, 2011, 5:32 pmIt must have been too much case lube. I took the die out, cleaned it and ran without the decapping pin as you suggested...no dimple. I then cleaned the pin and ball, replaced and ran some cases with less lube and no dimples.
I'm using the D.C.L. lube and I think my mistake was forgetting to wait the 5 minutes the directions suggest.
Thanks for your help.
