Problems with cartridge spring

I just finished my reloading for the first time ever using my new 550B and I am *really* impressed with the equipment and documentation!  The hardware is virtually foolproof, and the manual covers nearly everything that I could ask.  However, I did run into problems seating some of the primers for 9MM Luger - it seemed to be taking quite a bit of effort, and the primers weren't seating straight.

After a bit of messing around I found that the problem was occurring because the case was slipping over the cartridge spring when it came out of the sizing die, so it wasn't necessarily in position when the primer began to seat.  I messed around quite a bit and finally seem to have gotten the cartridge spring set correctly, but is there a particular method for adjusting this retainer?

Thank you for your help!

With a case inserted at station 1, loosen the retaining screw on this spring, slide it in until it touches the rim of the case, then back it up about .005-.010". Then snug the screw. This spring is not intended to push on the case; think of it as an adjustable locator button. It is there to keep the case from backing out of the shellplate.
