rapid trim 1200

i recently set up my 1200 Trimmer on my Rockchucker press by a method not outlined in your instructions and like to get your opinion.

I first ran a fired case through the sizing/decapping die on a properly set up 550. Once sized, I measuered the headspace with a Hornady gauge with Starrett dial calipers and checked with a Dillon case gauge.

I then set up the trimmer sizing die in the Rockchucker press and adjusted the die until the headspace gauge gave a measurement approx. .003-.004 less than the measurement obtained by the resizing/decapping die in the 550 press. Was within tolerence when measured with case guage.

The trimmer was then adjusted to trim to proper case length. In this case it was 1.750" for .223 Remington.

By setting up this way, once sized in the trimmer die the headspace will be slightly less than then the sizing/decapping die
as recommended in your instructions. Ran 100 plus cases though the trimmer and all within tolerance. Ran a few sized and trimmed cases thoughn the 550 and headspace was unchanged.

I did notice that some brass curls from the trimming operation were in the cases and a quick run in the tumbler cleaned it out.

Let me know your thoughts on this setup.

As long as the sized, trimmed case does not go below the minimum headspace, then your solution is fine.
