Recommended die config with 1200B

I was considering use the 1200B on a first pass for case prep on .223 ammunition.  But I wasn't sure when I should decap, size, and expand in relation to trimming.

I understand the trim die for the 1200B is a full length sizing die.  Does it also have a decapping pin?  And does that decapping pin have an expanding ball on it?  My guess is that it does not.

If I use a standard FL size/decap die with expander button in stage one, and then push the case thru the trim die in stage two, I will have lost the expansion in the neck done by the expander button in the first stage.  If I could defer the expanding part until after the case has gone thru the trim die, I would be alright.

Which does would you recommend I set up before and after the 1200B trim die?

P.S. - this guy has a video of him using the trimmer here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBQ_vJHiGek

On the second pass, he has a decapping die with an expanding rod in stage 1.  What brand decapping die would come with an expander ball on the decapping rod?

The trim die does not incorporate a decap assembly. Most users run a toolhead with a universal decapping die in station one,  and the trimmer further around. Then the loading toolhead has the regular FL size die with expander ball.  On rifle calibers, to the best of my knowledge all brands of size dies deprime and have an expander ball.

That was the first idea that came to mind.  It would work, but the problem what that setup is you're pushing each piece of brass through a full length sizing die twice (it is my understanding that the trim die is also a FL size die).  Doesn't this reduce the life of the brass?

The other setback with that configuration is that both passes require you to have lubed brass for rifle.  If I could get all the sizing out of the way in the first pass along with the trimming, then I can tumble my brass before the second pass.  This would remove burrs/lube etc and make the second phase go much smoother.. especially the powder drop when using a stick powder like Varget.

Any ideas?

To eliminate the need for the universal decapping die could I run the brass through the 1200B/ Re-Size and than further around use my Redding full length sizing die with expander ball? Then switch tool heads for loading with seat and crimp dies?

The design of any loader will require you to deprime in the first station only. If you remove the decapping pin, you can run your size die afterward.

RCBS has a lube die for several rifle calibers, wish Dillion had that, but anyway, it works great as a first step, to lube the case, and de-prime the case, then it is ready to go to the trim die. I found that it only puts enough lube to keep it from sticking in the sizing die, and not so much as to have to polish them again.

I have not tried this yet but i think i have a plan that will work with using two tool heads. I am getting my RT 1200 next Tuesday!!!  the only rifle caliber i load on my XL 650 is 223.

On the prep tool head, put an RCBS Lube/decapping die in station #1, #2 and #4 are empty, #3 has the RT 1200 and in station #5 use a resizing die with the decapping pin cut so the expander ball is intact.

On the second tool head use a Dillon universal decapping die in station #1 to clean the primmer hole and the normal positions for the rest of the tool head.

I do a complete polishing before I start with the Prep Tool head and then again after to clean off the lube.
