Resizing deprimer dies
Quote from Reloader on August 14, 2014, 3:58 amHey guys having some issues with my dillon 550 resizing die. I'm a gun lover but am very ignorant to reloading. I've got my dillon 550 set up and ready but can't seem to get rolling. I seem to get one issue solved and another one arises. My current issue and hopefully final one is the resizing die, which is an rcbs. The issue is the shell is lodging in the resizing die I have literally had to take vice grips to remove the last 2 cartridges from it. I'm using once fired 556 brass cleaned and lubed. And the die is cleaned. After hours on youtube I figured I'd approach the forum. I feel like I may have the die to far down shoving the shell to far in as its taking a good bit of torque to get the handle all the way down. The videos I have watched had the shell plate all the way up , screwed the resizing die just shy of the shell plate and having the deprimer rod about 3/16 below that.
My other issue is the primers aren't consistently falling into the primer cup. The cup is going all the way under the primer tube so I assume it needs to me raised a little ?
Thanks for the help sorry for bring a newb

Quote from Reloader on August 14, 2014, 9:25 pmIf this is a rifle caliber you are discussing, take a moment to remove the decapping assembly from the die, squirt some lube onto a q-tip and swab the inside of the die. Then replace the decapping assembly. If you are using One Shot lube, we'd recommend any other brand for better consistency, in our experience.

Quote from Reloader on August 15, 2014, 10:14 amYou might be over sizing your brass( resizing die too deep)
Raise the platroom all the way up. adjust the die so you have about a dimes thickness between the shellplate and the die. and start from there. Make sure you have a little lube in the size neck to help the expander pull back out.. You really need a case case to check your resized cases with..

Quote from Reloader on August 15, 2014, 12:09 pmJames thats how I tried to set it. I raised the shell plate up ( handle full down ) screwed the die down just shy of the shell plate. And deprimer needle is sticking about 3/16 ths out from it. Thanks for the manual post which is helpful on how to set although that's pretty much how i set it

Just curious; have you been successful in discovering the cause of your issues?

Quote from Reloader on August 28, 2014, 4:47 pmThe proper setting for the depriming assembly on 223/556 dies is shown in all photos of the rifle dies. The decap rod has groove with a clip in it. There is a thin nut that should be touching the underside of the clip and the nut should sit on the top of the die.
Now to set the height of the resizing die itself, you want to start with the die 1/4 turn off of the shellholder. Size a case and depending on how it looks when it is placed in a case gage (MANDATORY ITEM) you will move the die downward until you achieve proper headspace.
