Resizing die picking up brass

4 times in the last 2000 rounds of 9mm, the resizing die has picked up or attempted to pick up the brass from the shell on the resizing/depriming die. Twice I had the remove the stuck brass from the die and twice it broke shell plate screw picking up the shall plate (and stuck in the die).

Btw, Dillon sent me replacement shell plate screws(2) when the first one broke. The first two shells were WCC but the last two were Speer cases.

Any idea why this has started to happen?

a likely cause is the rim of the brass case was either incorrect dimensionally from manufacture, or fired in a grossly oversized chamber, so that the effort to resize was so extreme that the case was stuck in the die. You might check the shellplate for damage to the case pockets. Any damage will be readily visible.

Another thing to try is to clean the die. Excessive buildup of lube and crud can make the cases stick in the die.

Thank you both for the advice. I did a closer inspection of the shell plate and see no marring or gouges. I've also cleaned the die.

Doing quite a bit of reading and I see a *lot* of folks are proponents of using case lube even with carbide dies so I think I'm going to give that a whirl. Stated reasons are that it's easier on the cases, easier on the dies, easier on the press, and easier on my arm with the caveat that cleaning the die will need to be performed on some periodic interval.
