Ring on bullet from seater Die

I'm reloading .223.  using all Dillon equipment 550b and dillon .223 remington die set. During the bullet Seating die station process of the press, I have found that all the bullets or most of the bullets I have seated appear to have a noticable ring around the bullet head upon completion with the seating station process.  Is this normal ?? I have not seen this before with other bullet seating dies. Maybe a bullet pulling die. Working with Nosler 55 gr ballistic tips bullets. Hints resolution THANKS

Also on another NOTE - I'm New to this Progressive loading process and the Dillon 550B.

The primer seating appears to function OK.

Although I could us a bit deeper seating of the primer and I have to hand pull just a tad for the primer to find its way into the .223 cases primer pocket on the small primer slide. Any Help?

This marking is not uncommon on the softer match bullets. You can try polishing the interior of the bullet seating stem to match the profile of the bullets you are using with a dremel tool and a kratex cone. It helps if you chamfer the case mouth using a deburring tool.

Primer seating is a function of how tight the shellplate bolt is, how stiff the benchtop is(hint: plywood is a poor material choice for this application), and pressure applied at the end of the upstroke of the handle.

I am having the same issues on the XL 650 with Dillon 223 carbide set. I am chamfering the cases. Not every round has a pronounced ring on the bullet. I'm using Hornady 75gr BTHP bullets.

How will this affect the accuracy?

your thoughts,

Same problem here. Any response on effect on accuracy? shame to have grind new Dillion die

This ring is visual only, has no affect on accuracy. The bullet is steered from the rear end, so avoid damage to the base of the bullet. Hornady bullets have a different curvature than other brands, so this is not unheard of.

I too am having this problem with the seating die in a carbide .308 die set. The ring is so pronounced you can feel it. I replaced the Dillon seating die with a P.O.S. Lee seating die and the problem was solved. I am using Hornady A-Max bullets on factory new, factory chamfered Lapua Palma brass.

To me, the only thing more absurd than a $12 Lee die replacing part of a $170 Dillon die set is the suggestion I should take a dremel tool to a Dillon die to make it accommodate the most popular brand of bullet in the world (Hornady).  Really guys? I am Dillon blue to the core but it seems to me you are slipping on this one.

Similar issue here. Loading Barnes TTSX 168gr with Dillon seater die. All bullets have the ring, but worse, at the next to highest and highest powder loads, but only at max recs from the manual, the seater actually pulls the bullet out a little after seating it. This happened with Hornady GMX bullets also. With Varget, the bullet actually got stuck in the seater stem, requiring me to remove the stem so that I could remove the bullet. I got a Lee seater die and the problem disappeared.
