RL550 Rifle Loading 25-06
Quote from Reloader on September 22, 2012, 7:30 amPLEASE HELP! I have been using my 550 for pistol calibers and my .204 Ruger for about a year and it works great, much faster than my turret. I recently started trying to reload 30-06 and 26-06 and what a nightmare. I am ready to throw the machine out the window and then set it on fire. I have wasted more powder and brass than I will ever get back in return. I am trying to reload 25-06 with IMR 4350 at 48.7g. Sometimes I get a half charge, sometimes it just smashes the neck, sometimes it hangs up and jams and my all time favorite is when it just starts dumping powder all over the place.
Is it because the large powder bar cant handle the fluffy powder? Will using an X-large powder bar help with the fluffy powder? I have loaded slow, fast, up and down multiple times and just about everything else. Let me know what you guys think... thanks!

Quote from Reloader on September 24, 2012, 4:15 pmThe cause of all of the problems you are having is the choice of powder. Changing to the magnum bar won't help, as most of your issues are due to the powder log-jamming in the powder funnel, due to the smallish hole size it has to go through. It helps if you slow the handle downstroke so it takes at least one full second to move the powder bar from one side to the other.
I strongly recommend a different powder, either a shorter- grained extruded powder, such as the Hodgdon short cut (SC) line, or even better, a ball/spherical powder.
