rl550b

I just installed the small primer cup and magazine tube. now once I have a primed shell in the powder slot and I raise up the ram to the top and just as I start to bring it down I get a clunk sound is this normal? I am new to the reloading world and want to make sure I am doing this right. I am reloading 9mm and is there a min. oacl for the 9mm? any help would be greatful.

The clunk is normal. This is when the floating powder funnel contacts the lip in the bottom of the powder die at the beginning of the upstroke. Immeadiately after that the case is pulled down off the end of the funnel. You get another clunk when the failsafe bracket is pulled past the corner of the powder measure body and the powder bar is fully retracted by the return rod.

ok thank you so much. is there a thing of being to short? and is there a way to insure of a consent charge of powder with the 550b? I have been checking every load to ensure is what I need it to be. and its either over or under by a .1 or .2 grains

Your powder scale is only accurate to +/- .1 grain to begin with. Depending on the powder you are using, up to a .2 grain variation is typical. Large flake powders, such as Unique, Red Dot, Blue Dot, will have more variation than ball/spherical powders such as AA2, WST, W-231, etc. These will vary by no more than .1 grain. Be aware that no ammunition is loaded at 0.0 variation in powder, it simply isn't that critical. There is too much variation to the internal case volume from one piece of brass to the next for .1 grain to have any significance.

ok thank you for the info.
