rl550b primer pin breaking
Quote from Reloader on January 19, 2010, 12:16 amMy new rl550b depriming pin broke while loading 30-06 for my garands. All my brass is from the cmp. Most of it is lake city, but there is some greek hxp and match as well. At first I thought a 8mm berdan primed had snuck in there. This however was not the case. It seems the hxp was problem free, but the lake city would not punch out. I went ahead and ordered extra pins, but is there a simple explanation for this?

Quote from Reloader on January 23, 2010, 11:12 pmThe same thing happened to me just a few weeks ago.. My father-inlaw just purchased the 30-06 dies, and we opened them up and the second brass case we deprimed broke the pin. They used to be covered under the no b.s. but apparently they are now considered a comsumable parts or something.. anyway we ordered a few more.

Quote from Reloader on January 30, 2010, 12:47 pmNot positive on this (I'm new to reloading) but have read about military rounds having crimped primers. I do believe this would cause the problem you're having. Dillon sells a swage tool to take care of this, but I can't afford that right now, so I have gotten a couple of hand tools where I have to punch each individual primer out then ream the primer pocket to make is usable for a new primer. Do an internet search on military primer crimp removal for more info. Hope this helps

Quote from Reloader on July 15, 2010, 11:58 pmI have had some really sticky primers, all crimped military. I guess I'm just lucky to have not broken a pin yet. It is always crimped cases, never commercial.

Quote from Reloader on August 17, 2010, 5:36 pmI have a hornady 308 die and the depriming pin is held in with a compression nut. I ran into a berdan primed case and the pin just pushed up. I had to first throw the case away and then loosen the nut holding it and continue
