sdb hanging up powder flinging

Hey, I just finished setting up and loading my first few hundred rounds in my SDB 9mm. I noticed everyonce in a while i notice powder fling out of the casing between step 2 and 3. It feels like the press is hanging up somewhere and then with added pressure breaking free and rotating. Any fixes to this? Also, How do i identify the round bullet and wadcutter/hollow point die?
Thanks!

How old is your machine? It may be that the angled bottom surface of the index lever needs to be greased. If so, pull the handle down, and use a flat blade screwdriver to reach this area from the rear right side of the shaft.

Does the machine seem to be smoother when cycling it empty? If so, it could be a dirty shellplate, the ejector wire is not in the correct position, or deformed case rims.

My machine is brand new, purchased last week. Everything should be well greased from the factory i am hoping. The shell plate is still sparkling clean. The ejector wire is in the correct place still from what i can see. Sometimes it will load a few dozen rounds fine and then act up for a few. I cant tell what it is, i pulled the shell plate and there are a few rough edges on it, could that be causing the binding?

Cycle the handle without brass, see if the shellplate rotates smoothly. Be sure you are using #3 locator pins. Sometimes a case rim is damaged enough to hang up on the pins as the shellplate tries to rotate.

One strange problem I've had with my Square Deal. This depends on how your machine is mounted. Mine is bolted to a piece of wood, and I clamp it to my workbench so it doesn't spend all it's time there. I can move it somewhere out of the way when not using it. However when on bench you must be carefull about the clearance to workbench of the plastic wing nut that applies tension on the spring and rod by the used primer collection cup. it can intermittently hit the edje of the workbench on it's way back up.

Fordfixer,

You might apply some blue loc-tite or teflon tape on the area of the rod where the blue wing nut is to minimize its rotating during cycling.
