Setting bullet seating depth
Quote from Reloader on January 8, 2010, 1:16 pmI have a Dillon 550B, and I made an interesting observation the other day. When setting the dies up for proper seating depth, I've been noticing that after I adjust the seating die, I the bullet seems to be seated to the perfect depth that I want initially. I then start reloading and measure the finished rounds and note the OAL is too long. This was driving me nuts. I figured that I hadn't tightened either the seater die or the powder funnel die down well enough.
Anyway, I just noticed that the bullet seating depth actually isn't as deep when you have shells at the 3 other stations on the press. When adjusting for bullet seating depth, I now realize that I need to have the press set up with the unfinished rounds at all three other stations as well.
Hope this helps you as it did me!
