Setting crimp die

Took the #4 crimp die apart to clean out the bullet lube.  Have done it before but don't actually remember how I got it readjusted.  User manual and help guide weren't too useful on this one, at least for me.

What I did do was put the cartridge that the factory sent out with the machine back in, raised the ram and screwed the die down snug.  Then ran a couple empties through and checked the measurement with a mic.  They read about the same and fit my case gauge just fine.

I'm assuming it's a taper crimp type die.  My Lyman die for this says to decrease the diameter .003" - .004" and no more.  Just how I'd determine that here is what I'm not figuring out.  At #3 you still have the flare of the case mouth so measuring that wouldn't do me any good.  Something's not clicking in my thick head I'm sure but what?

Any hints for how I should be going about this?  Thanks in advance.

Mike

It sounds like it is correctly adjusted. For semi-automatic cartridges, the 4th die is a taper crimp.
