shell plate alignment
Quote from Reloader on January 19, 2013, 6:28 amI have a weird situation. The shell plate and primer punch are out of alignment, damages primers like crazy with 223. Yes all pockets are swaged, but you can actually see the misalignment. If the pockets are reamed, not so bad, but commercial or swaged pockets will play heck with the primers. I can manually torque the primer advance arm and move the primer wheel a tad to make it seat properly if it catches on the push stroke. The primer assy screws have to be loosened for it to function at 75% seating efficiency. I thought the fine ball powder was forcing the shells out into the locator pins and binding, but it does its thing with it all clean and clear. May have to take pictures and send to Dillon. Anyone else have this problem??

Quote from Reloader on January 19, 2013, 8:37 pmI would contact Dillon. If your press is out of alignment, they do have a tool that will realign pres.

Quote from Reloader on January 23, 2013, 2:42 pmMake sure you have the spring set correctly on the primer portion where it holds the brass into the shell plate. I had this same problem and adjusted the screw what pushed that spring and little piece out more. No problems since.

Quote from Reloader on February 4, 2013, 5:41 pmI have the same situation; I have just loaded 1000 rounds of 45 and 1000 rounds of 40 without any problem. I would say about one in ten is getting deformed now that I have switched to 223, I am surprised I haven’t had one to fire yet. I have adjusted my shell plate at least 6-7 times, I have polished the top of the primer punch, and I have disassembled and re-aligned the press twice. It seems that some insert fine and the next one will hit ¼ of a hole off; it could be that they are all NATO brass and I just swaged them. I have checked the primer arm that the spring on for adjustment and it is just off the shell plate. Pulling my hair out!

Quote from Reloader on March 13, 2013, 4:49 amI had the problem years ago and Dillon sent me an alignment gage. I have the gage yet but forget how I used it and where the adjustment was made, but there is an adjustment somewhere. If I can find info on the adjustment, I'll get back to this forum. Good luck - Jim
