shell plate alignment

I have a XL650 that is having shell plate to primer disc alignment issues. I have read numerous posts on the advancement of the primer disc not going far enough but that is not what is happening here.

The shell plate itself is actually going just a little too far thus not allowing the proper alignment of the primer seating disc and the shell plate. I adjusted the index block for quite some time and could not correct this problem. I also checked, after a thorough clean, all springs and hardware for correct installation. I am starting to wonder if I have a platform issue but do not see anything wrong there either.

If anyone has seen this and can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Ill try to post a photo if I can.

Just some things to check.

- are the bolts holding the platform (22060) to the mainshaft (13485) tight?
- how tight is the shell plate center bolt (13418)? There should be no noticeable movement (up/down) when pressing down on the plate at station 4.

I torqued the platform bolts to probably around 120" lbs. I had checked that too during my last alignment. Also have been tightening the shell plate to just snug then backing it off so the plate turns freely but it is not loose.

I thought there was something going on with the platform where the indexing ball and spring are but I found nothing. Odd one, everything looks right..

Then the adjustment of the indexing cam #16776 is what is left.

Adjustment of the indexing block did correct this issue. When the shell plate advances, it still goes about .0030 too far thus not allowing proper alignment of the primer station to the shell being held by the shell plate. I believe I have a worn out platform assembly. I have a digital of whats happening if you can provide me an email address.

My mistake, the last post should have read, "adjustment of the indexing block did not correct the issue".

I have everything running fine, and then the press platform cannot be raised [ the primer plate advance arm will not move. Everytime this press (XL 650) starts running it invariably hits a stoppage and the problem is ALWAYS the primer assembly, or rather, the primers. CCI primers were horrible in sizing differences, the Federal Large Pistol Primers are more consistent in size but they jam the primer wheel also. I'm about to buy nothing but primed brass and let the primer assembly run, which it does without a hitch, as long as I don't load the primer magazine. What am I missing? Different brand of primers? I'm close to hand priming all the brass, but the though of hand priming 1000 cases one at a time makes me want to junk the whole thing. As an aside, I loaded 200 9mm (small pistol primer) without a hitch. With the large primers I can't get the primer wheel to advance more than 8 or 9 times then it jams the whole works up.

On Primer jams, I found that fine spent primer dust gets into the Primer Punch and does not let the rod return to its lowest point at rest. The rod actually starts rising above the primer disc enough to cause primers to turn sideways or stop the cycle by hanging primers on the shell plate. I disassemble the primer punch and clean it. The punch rod should fit flush or a bit lower than the threaded housing of the Primer Punch unit. Hope this helps. My 380 acp runs so out of line that the powder funnel hangs up and the sizing die crushes brass. The Dillon sizing die doesn't resize the 380 acp brass adequately as it is flared for misalignment. It does seem something is out of alignment.
