shell plate bolt tightening

lately somewhere between 100-150 rounds somewhere the shell plate bolt starts to tighten itself and i have to stop a loosen it. also the allen key bolts under the plate that hold the platform have been coming loose. i am not sure where to start troubleshooting.

The platform bolts need to be TIGHT. This is imperative. If the shellplate bolt is tightening, then the set screw located on the left side of the ram, about 1/4" from the top, needs to be snugged. It is a brass-tipped screw, so over-tightening it will needlessly deform the tip.

Well the set screw had fallen out and I found it and put it back together. That resolved the shell plate issue, but the platform bolts are still loosening. I am thinking about putting a bit of loctite on them to stop this. Does that seem reasonable?? Or could it be something else??

The two platform bolts should be tight, but we have never had a reason to use loc-tite on them.  If you must, use only blue loc-tite.

I got through about 250 rounds today and the Platform bolts needed tightened again. Seems a bit weird. Might tear it apart this weekend and see if I can figure it out. Thanks also for the heads up on the blue loctite. I have some red around here and would have used that!

Try degreasing the holes in the shaft using cotton swabs and alcohol, then wipe off the threads on the platform bolts with alcohol. Then see if the platform bolts stay tight.

well i figured out what it was.

i decided to tear it down tonight and either find a problem and fix it, or use some loctite. what happened is the platform busted around the front bolt (closest to you) this explains a LOT of issues i have been having the last couple weeks.

i contacted customer support and will be sending it off in the morning. just thought i would let you know.

I was also experiencing my shell plate bolt continually tightening. The advice about the set screw was exactly what I needed to solve the problem. Thanks!
