Shell plate not moving
Quote from Reloader on August 20, 2018, 1:48 pmI have a 650 XL and loaded about 900 rounds of 9mm this weekend. Abruptly the shell plate stopped rotating when I lower the handle.
The plate will rotate freely with my finger. I removed it anyway and cleaned underneath it, ensured that the ball/spring and index pawl/spring are intact. I reinstalled the shell plate and made sure the bolt is not too tight (rotates freely with my finger).
In summary, the shell plate is not "locked up", it simply doesn't rotate when I pull the handle down.
I am sure there is a simple explanation - I just am not very mechanically minded and don't have enough experience with the 650 XL to figure this out...any ideas or helpful input would be greatly appreciated.

Quote from Reloader on August 20, 2018, 3:49 pmJust for sake of clarity, the shellplate indexes when the handle is being returned to the "up" position, not as the handle is pulled down...
Having said that, I would suspect the return spring on the indexer ring may have broken or detached itself. If you cycle the handle with the shellplate removed - do you see the indexer pawl moving back and forth, or is it stuck in one spot?

Quote from Reloader on August 20, 2018, 4:37 pmRemove the shellplate, then cycle the handle down and up. During the up stroke, you should see the index pawl move within the arc-shaped opening in the platform. If it doesn't, then either the ring indexer is damaged, or the return spring has slipped off or is broken.

Quote from Reloader on September 5, 2018, 9:32 pmThat just happened to me after reinstalling my shell plate. Turns out I forgot to tighten the set screw that locks the shell plate bolt and it was sticking out enough to prevent that ramp that moves the shell plate from moving correctly.

Quote from Reloader on April 4, 2021, 12:11 amNote: my use of "up/down strokes" are in reference to the operating handle, which is the reverse motion of the piston, raising and lowering of the shell plate.
When the Shell Plate does successfully index (on the UP stroke-piston/plate headed down), it "should" reset itself when you begin to pull the handle down (piston & plate UP). You will hear a slight but distinct "click". If you do not hear that reset click then the shell plate will not be indexing on the next up stroke. There is a small horizontal spring that rides along a portion of the upper circumference of the piston that helps to trigger the plate index reset that is probably the culprit. You may need a flashlight to see it. That spring is either broken, weak or (in my case) gummed up with a combination of grease, loose powder, small dirt particles, etc. My shell plate indexing problem was resolved by cleaning/degreasing that very small spring.

I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about creating my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any tips or suggestions? CheersIndoCair Alternatif
