Shipping Charges

I ordered a complete quick change kit for 9mm on February 5th. I understood it was going to be 6-8 weeks before I received it. Total shipping charges were to be $19.99. On February 13th everything arrived but the dies. The shipping charges on the partial order was $17.49. I called Dillon and after waiting on hold for 40 minutes (hey, I understand they're very busy)Gary advised that the dies were on back order and when they shipped the freight on just the dies would be $11.99. That's not good business. Better business practice would be to notify the customer and find out if they wanted the entire order held until it could be shipped in it's entirety or if they wanted to accept a partial order. Hard to reload ammunition without dies. Gary advised me that he couldn't help company policy. I advised Gary that I wasn't too happy to pay $11.99 additional shipping. And, I'm not. And so it goes. It simply should not cost $11.99 additional to send an item that originally was only going to be $2.50. Sorry to rant so long. Maybe somebody can convince me I'm wrong.

I agree. I read the same thing on some obscure "notice" that dies would ship separately and incur an additional shipping charge.

I do fully understand the "rush" and I understand the additional wait time. I can deal with that, however I completely agree with dpittman that the dies should NOT be an additional shipping charge when part of a larger order that you already paid shipping on.

There should only be one shipping charge. Shipping charges are based on the total cost of what you bought and not charged separately. I am waiting on my press and dies since Jan 13th and have received 3 separate shipments so far and have only been charged the original shipping charge.

Well, lo and behold, my 9mm dies arrived day before yesterday. Gary must have sensed my displeasure and pulled a set which was supposed to go to someone else. So 6-8 weeks is not a total and inescapable reality. Now, they didn't eat the shipping charges of $11.99 but at least I've got all I ordered. I continue to feel as if I should not have paid but $2.50 for them but that's the way life goes. In defense of Dillon I realize that they are under tremendous pressure as is everyone in the firearm/ammunition/reloading business to get product to consumers. However, their bottom line should look exceptionally good this year thanks to the gun control debacle. All I'm saying is use a little common sense and don't ship a partial order when you know it's useless without the unshipped portion and then charge the customer additional shipping. Would someone ship you a car without a steering wheel? Thanks anyway Dillon.

Interesting ... I've been pretty much quietly patiently waiting for my order to be completed. Its pretty simple, just a 550 press and those pesky 9mm dies..... going on my 6th week.. yep thats early january.. so far just case lube and a video (nice pun dillon) i sure hope i hear something soon.... i hate to be a whiner about waiting... but i dislike the thought of my order waiting even longer just to fill a (special) order! ?? : /

Funny you say that, dpittman - I've seen other posts from people upset with the wait, and they say "don't hold the order just because a couple things are back ordered"....

Just goes to show, you're not going to make everyone happy all the time.

I can see where holding the order until everything is ready works, so you don't get a machine with no dies, and I can see where shipping partials makes sense as well (eg. start reading the reloading manual, or maybe you get a machine and one set of dies but you're waiting on a few other calibers)

It would be inefficient to make those decisions on an order-by-order basis - they obviously have to have a SOP. That SOP will just work out better in some cases than others...

personally (It's just my humble opinion) I believe if online order is made there should be box you could click on for ship all at one time or ship as available. just a thought, whao there now you have a logistical nightmare of storage and that means a new bldg not to mention more staff higher over head and now higher prices dangit all what ever happened to KISS--lol

I think something is wrong with your additional shipping charges.
When I placed an order for several sets of dies along with some other items; I was told that everything was on back-order and ship as they came in.  I specifically asked; and was told that there would be only one shipping charge.  On the main page it also states that the entire order's shipping charge will be on the first invoice for what ships at that time and when other parts of your order ships there will not be any additional shipping charged.
Did you modify your order?

I went ahead and ate the additional shipping charges although I thought I was right.  Nevertheless, I'm now loading 9mm and turning out some good ammo.

I agree with most of the users here.  I appreciate the sense of urgency to ship the equipment that I purchased as it becomes available and it has only taken two fedEx shipments and one usps but the shipping charges do add up.  I have 1-2 deliveries left based on what I'm missing and so far my order total has increased by 2% but it will likely increase by another 2% by the time I actually get everything.  If there were an option to combine all items into a single shipment on the web form I probably would have taken it.  I'm not in a super hurry for my gear, it's not like there are a lot of bullet components readily available any way.
