Shuddering primer feed

My primer feed on the RL550b was sticking & shuddering rather than sliding smoothly as it slid back & forth.

Following the manual's instructions I dismantled & cleaned then polished with Scotchbrite, removing some caked on debris. I then wiped with alcohol cloths till everything looked smooth & clean & reassembled. I also checked the position & alignment of the operating rod & the spacing of the pivot block for it on the primer shield.

After reassembly it was better, but still jerky instead of smooth. Even with the actuating rod disconnected, sliding the unit manually it judders.

I did notice a few things.
The front top face of the #14015 Primer track bearing has a worn through patch showing silver metal, not the black coating.
The slide #13920 is of an earlier version also. (I understand there are several versions)? I only have the one, which is a solid, magnetic bar with chevrons cut into the lower face.

Any clever ideas?

Powdered graphite applied to the top of the primer track bearing surface often works well. It's worth a try--easy and inexpensive. The alternative is to replace the bearing plate with a new one.
Also polish the bottom surface of the primer slide with something like Flitz and a non-scratch Scotchbrite pad. These things have worked for me. Hope this helps you.

OK, I tried that & its a little better. How about dri-lubes such as the 3 in 1 "100% dry to the touch" dri lube?

It could also be the op-rod where it inserts into the bracket. Remove the op-rod, then pull the handle down and see how the primer slide cycles.

Use a scotchbrite pad or fine grit sandpaper to smooth off the short end of the op-rod where it goes into the bracket, then grease it before re-installing it into the bracket.

I've cleaned & polished the slide (which is the older solid with angled "crud grooves" type).
The slide shudders even with the op rod cleaned, polished & lubed. I've also tried adjusting the position of the #13887 block to minimize binding, all unsuccessfully.
I do notice the 14015 primer track bearing seems worn with a "silver" area at the end.

FYI, 3 in 1 "100% dry lube is not 100% dry, it leaves a greasy film after even several days of dry down time.

But on the good side replacing the old solid primer slide with diagonal cuts with the newer hollow coated ones worked perfectly to fix the problem.
