sizing die adj 550
Quote from Reloader on July 9, 2013, 2:19 amJust getting my new 550 setup, a little confused on the die adjustments, instructions say to screw die until it touches the shellplate, but the shellplate is stepped of course, so I'm not sure what "contacting the shellplate" really means. I have all the stations set and using the micrometer, I'm good. But I didn't really understand the instructions on a starting point for the dies.
I'm especially wondering about the sizing die, should the press continue to move past the primer being popped? As mine does? It's hard for me to tell if the sizing die is fully making it the entire length of the shell. And with the powder die, is it typical for the shell to stick to it, as mine does? Only releasing w/extra pressure on the handle?
Same with the crimp die. I've only loaded a few test shells so far, w/no primer or powder to test the fit in my 92fs. They cycle through the action ok. The crimp dimension measures good.
thanks for any help!

Quote from Reloader on July 9, 2013, 3:54 amSounds like you are using new brass. If you lube it or better yet tumble it in some dry media, your dies won't stick. Also, just flare your cases the minimum required to place the bullet.
Lossen the lock ring on your sizing die all the way up. Raise the ram and then screw the sizing die until you feel it touch the shell plate. Back it off a 1/16 of a turn. Now size a case and leave the ram UP while you tighten the lock ring. Make sure the die body stays put while you tighten the ring.
The instructional DVD is worth the price if you didn't get it.
Hope this helps.
