Small amounts of shot everywhere
Quote from Timbob18 on May 8, 2025, 3:00 pmI picked up a used SL900 and have been reloading some 3/4 oz 12 ga loads with good success.
I find that as I’m loading there are pellets of shot that show up on the carousel and fall largely through the well designed channels for them to naturally clear out while reloading. Occasionally they end up in a spot where they prevent a hull from fully seating.
Is some random shot fall standard for a SL 900? I’m wondering if I need to make an adjustment or just deal with this?
I also load MEC and progressive PW and don’t have this issue with those presses.
Thanks for any advice you have!

Quote from The Human Manual on May 8, 2025, 4:11 pmFirst, what size of shot are you using? next, inside the shot measure housing is a machined recess with a rubber wiper insert in it, stock #17146 on the exploded drawing on page 14. Is this insert present? Are you using any reclaimed shot?
Shot drops as you pull the handle down, but the bottom of the shot drop tube is pressed against the bottom of the wad. As the handle is lifted up, this is when shot actually fills the cup. If shot is logjamming in the funnel, then it won't all have exited the shot drop tube before the bottom of the drop tube clears the top of the hull. Use a brush to make sure the interior of the drop tube is clean. Use #6 or smaller shot. Avoid reclaimed shot, as it isn't round. The shot should have come to you lightly coated in graphite.

Quote from cutter2001 on May 21, 2025, 6:09 pmI load only #8 and 7.5 size shot that is Lawerence American made shot. I have a new part #17146 placed, and I still seem to have small amounts of shot dropping on the shell plate that then gets stuck and prevents seating of shells. I have cleaned the interior of the shot tube as well. Any other help is appreciated.
