Small Pistol Primer Issues
Quote from Reloader on November 30, 2008, 11:42 amI started reloading 9mm on my 550B and encountered problems with the primers turned upside down in the primer seating cup (small). This situation does not present itself all of the time but it forces me to keep a closer eye on this area of the reloading process and then correct the orientation problem when observed. I never encountered this problem when reloading 45s. Any suggestions on how to correct the problem.

Quote from Reloader on December 1, 2008, 4:25 pmWhen you swapped the primer slides, did you exchange them, or merely swap out the cup and punch? It sounds like the cup and punch aren't fully seated into the slide. Using calipers, measure from the underside of the slide to the top of the cup. It should measure 1.410", +/- .003". If too tall, use a clamp or vise to fully seat, then retighten the set screw.

Quote from Reloader on January 5, 2009, 5:21 pmI've experience this many times over the years. In my case it's been spent primer particals making the primer slide run rough. It gets bad enough that the primer slide gets chattery and flips primers in the cup.
Most of the time cleaning the primer slide and all the areas around it smooths the operation out significantly.
