Small primer problem 550b
Quote from Reloader on January 31, 2014, 9:42 pmI have been having issues with my Rl550b dropping primers all over the floor and into the spent primer cup. It drops a second primer on every pull. I checked the settings for the primer cup per pg 5 and found that it was out of spec. The best I could set it to was 1.180, not quite enough to work correctly. I did get it set for 1.215-1.220 per spec which worked well for the primer feed but the first time I seated a primer the pin pushed in and the setting was lost. So I investigated farther and found that the primer seating pin has a groove machined in to allow the set screw to hold. The groove is in the wrong place and won't allow the pin to stop in the right place. To verify this I used a file to extend the groove farther, which ended up being a flat to the end of the pin. . This worked until I got a primer that was just a bit tighter, then the pin pushed in again and started dropping primers. I am going to machine a short spacer to insert below the pin to act as a stop for the pin so that it won't change from pressure. It took me quite some time to figure out what the issue was, and I actually had to set up a single stage press to deprime so that I wasn't dropping good primers with bad. Pain in the butt! I am happy that I was able to identify the issue and that i am capable of making it work. I just hope that Dillon is aware that this has happened and may be able to help others with the same issue. The large primer feed works great. I will reply once I remedy this next week.

Quote from Reloader on February 6, 2014, 6:30 amI did send an email and as usual, Dillon Precision honors their equipment. A new part has been sent. Thank you. I did put a spacer into the primer seating anvil pocket and it works as it should. Thanks again.
