Small primer problems

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Yeah, I was tumbling with soapy water and stainless steel pins to get that new shine. That's what did it probably. I don't do that anymore every time. I tumble in dry walnut shell now every time and do the wet tumble once a year. But it has been a while since I loaded any 9mm, so this was the only powder funnel that had the scoring on it.

I thought I'd comment on this topic.

I've had two primers go in the case sideways. After that I pulled the priming system apart for cleaning and a bit of grease, where recommended, as well as cleaning the shell plate.

I suspect the problem was caused by some case mouths sticking to the powder funnel during the flaring & powdering operation. This results in the press jolting (sudden sharp movement) when the case comes off the funnel. The bench on which the press is mounted is very solid but the press can still move a small amount when a sticky case is coming off the funnel. To cure this, I lightly polished the funnel and it's reduced the sticking cases and I haven't had any more primer issues.
