Some primers not fully seated

I've had my XL650 for three months and have tried small batched of several loads and finally decided on what I wanted. Last Saturday, I loaded about 200 rounds. While case gauging them, I found about 20 that the primer had not seated fully, some protruding a fair amount, like half way. The next day I loaded about 400 rounds and "double pumped" the handle while setting the primers. I still found about 30 that were sticking out a little. They were all deeper seated, but not fully. Beings this is a small amount, it seems like I may be doing something not quite right, but I don't know what that is. I'm using lubed cleaned used brass in 45 ACP and Remington LPP. I may have to call Dillon, but I work during the week and don't expect a day off for a while. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for all help.

Sounds like your shell plate is not tight enough.

Back off the shell plate set screw (see figure 173 in manual), tighten shell plate bolt until it stops.  Lossen bolt until the shell plate just hand index's (about 1/8 turn of bolt).  While hand indexing you should be able to fell the index ball moving into next index hole.  Tighen set screw.

You should be able to 'feel' the primer push into the case.  It is more a press firmly to end of stroke than a pump. Be sure you press the handle to the end of the stroke.  I would say firmly, but you are not trying to twist the loader from the bench.

Being a new loader it is unlikely to be a dirty (primer) seater assembly.  Spent primer dust/gunk will slide down the primer pin and get under it, eventually restricting the amount the pin pokes through the shellplate (seating the assembly).  See figure  130.

Thanks for the tip. I did have it come loose while I was using the press. I didn't want to tighten it too tight, so this could be the reason. Appreciate the help, thanks.

I tightened my shell plate and loaded 450 rounds today. I did have a couple of primers not fully seated and I think that was when I was distracted by one of the processes going on and didn't give the handle a good seat. It was a good suggestion and I appreciate you taking the time to help.
