Spent primer collection
Quote from Reloader on January 6, 2012, 1:52 amI've been reloading .45 ACP on my 550 for 8 months or so without any issues that weren't user related.I just started reloading .40 s&w and the only issue is the spent primer bin. After resizing the spent primer is sent any and everywhere except into the primer bin.I've checked everything, and cleaned everything as per the manual but I still get the same results.I switched tool heads back to .45 ACP to compare, and it worked flawlessly.Any help?

Quote from Reloader on January 6, 2012, 6:57 pmProblem solved. It was the little cotter key/pin that keep the catch bin together.Somehow it had gotten into a bind and was holding it in the open position....DUH on me big time.Once again,me not the machine. Thanks!

Quote from Reloader on February 18, 2012, 2:14 amHey thanks to the original post and to the one that answered it. I got an RL550B for Christmas and have been reloading like a fiend. Tonight the spent primers were going all over the place. Some were landing on the new primer feed ramp which plays havoc with the smooth operation of the cycle. IMO the cotter pin in the spent primer chute is a little too tight. Mine was really jammed in there and in order to get it out I had to grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and rotate the pliers which wound the cotter pin onto the pliers as it was pulled out. I went back with the same size cotter pin but only one leg of it. Now the spent primer chute operates perfectly.
I love my RL550B
Thanks again guys
Vince

Quote from Reloader on May 24, 2012, 12:21 pmIf this is such a "Common" and recurring problem, I would think this should be an easy, and next to free fix for Dillon to implement. It would be one less of what are already relatively few customer issues and again add to their rep for the very best designed and built machines.

Quote from Reloader on June 18, 2012, 2:32 pmI had the same problem, I took the cotter pin and got rid of it. I then took a primer tube clip and used that. It fits perfectly and it is round and solid.

Quote from Reloader on January 3, 2019, 1:32 pmI have the exact same problem, the cotter pin is hung up and primers are going all over the place. I will replace it with something more solid tonight. Loaded 100 rounds this morning before work and it drove me crazy with the primers going everywhere, seems like a simple design change fix is in order Dillon.

Quote from Reloader on January 7, 2019, 11:18 pmI cut a section of paper towel inner cardboard roll to about 3" and stood it in the spent primer cup, then trimmed it for all the obstructions( Frame, operating rod and spent primer catch chute ) I haven't dropped a primer since.
