Spent Primers
Quote from Reloader on May 6, 2008, 6:41 pmI've entered the world of making my own handloads (.38spl) recently and have what is probably a stupid question.
Is it okay to toss the spent primers in the trash? God knows with all the enviro police out there, I wouldn't want to be making a landfill out there any more hazardous than it already is.Mike
S&W Model 10 for Bullseye
Ruger MkIII for Bullseye and plates
Keltec P3AT for CC
Would love a Kimber 1911 or any quality 1911

Quote from Reloader on May 6, 2008, 10:20 pmLive primers might be a problem, but spent primers are inert. I've been doing it for years. In my mind it's no different than throwing bottle caps or can tabs in the garbage. I doubt there are any recycling venues for spent primers, but I could be wrong.

Quote from Reloader on June 4, 2008, 1:49 pmI think the concern here is if there are any toxic residue in spent primers. I don't know - probably better question for primer manufactures.
I've been throwing them in the trash for years but you bring up a good question.
P.S. - have you looked at the new Tarius 1911 - I bought one for my son and am impressed (he still wants my Colt Government Model)

Quote from Reloader on June 4, 2008, 5:40 pmYou got me thinking so I asked CCI, leading manufacture of primers, and they said you can put spent primers in with normal trash.

Quote from Reloader on October 16, 2008, 7:06 pmI realize it's been awhile since this topic posted but I'm new to the forum. Keep your spent primers and crushed, split, or ruined brass. It's worth about $1.85/lb. Depending on how much you reload, it can add up. Berdan primed brass is a pain to reload, but if it is classified as yellow brass, you can sell it as scrap also.

GR

I've tried since about 2005-- they tell me NO, since 911 in NYC. Of course all of their / our scrap is going to China. They are inert and yellow brass maybe, someday they'll take them and I'll be ready!!!!
