Spitting primers
Quote from Reloader on February 27, 2013, 5:23 amThis week i received my XL-650 Dillon press, got it all together yesterday and today finally got ti all put together and after setting all my dies and checking everything out i began to load , well with every pull of the arm a primer would spit out into the little chute next to the primer wheel. I couldn't use the Case Feeder as i had to do one round at a time because the chute filled up to quickly. Has anyone else had this problem? I am new to reloading so i would appreciate any help on this matter.
Thanks

Quote from Reloader on February 27, 2013, 3:26 pmIt is supposed to work that way .
If there is no case in the prime and powder station to be primed, it will
just rotate toward teh dump shoot on the next press pull.I'm going to guess what you are doing is not placing a empty
cartridge in station one on each and every pull of the handle. Before I bought my case feeder I used for some years just the
empty tubes. Filled em manually. Works fine until you forget to
keep the tube filled. Then one starts to see 'spit primers'.
Tip. To stop that primer feeder to stop auto indexing on each and every pull find a small piece of metal, o say 25 thousands of a inch thick or so,
that you can bend into a L shape. If you get the design right you just
slip taht under the arm where that arm pin (bent bit on arm) fits into
the holes on the primer disk.
It prevents the angled pin bit on tha tindex arm from engaging the hole,
and you can then crank with relative safty WHILE keeping an eye on that
metal bit to make sure no binding or hitting something it should not.You will run across times you will want to do that.
I stole that idea from a you tube vid I saw.

and I ended up replying to wthe wrong post.
I just wanted to caution I don't do that primer station manuver
I listed at the end other than when forced to do some sort
of set up or twiddling without emptying the primer station first.

Quote from Reloader on March 11, 2013, 4:29 pmDillon sent me a new Primer Assembly when Dave couldn't figure out why i am having problems with my primer, it crushes primers and every so often the primers are upside down with the new assembly. I am 100% sure i am not inserting them that way . I end up wasting more primers then. I'm thinking i may have to RMA the press back to Dillon 🙁 especially when i waited so long to receive it and i'm waiting on 2 more ...ANy help why the primers are flipping and crushing ?
Thanks

Quote from Reloader on March 26, 2013, 9:49 pmFound out the reason for the primer problem was when support sent me out the new primer assembly they sent the large primer assembly and my press is set up for 9mm and the small primer assembly, thats to getting someone on the phone and he figured it out. I ordered the press setup for 9mm instead of 45ACP and i guess them being so busy are entitled to mistakes. Thaks for very fast email replies from Eric Harvey we got to correct it fast.
