Sticking Powder Bar
Quote from Reloader on December 15, 2012, 2:14 amI have a 550B I bought back in the mid 90's that has produced many a round. The powder bar sticks (hangs up,) upon the return cycle after charge. I have found that the large powder bar (used the most,) has some of the teflon type finish worn away both on the top and bottom of the bar. I am assuming that the bare aluminum to aluminum contact between the bar and housing is the problem. A good cleaning used to help, but no more.
I was going to order another large powder bar PN# 20063, and also noticed that the Bell Crank mechanism has since changed (PN# 97034.) I am curious as to if this improvement also helps return the powder bar with greater force than my old style mechanism. Also, which parts I should buy for the new Bell Crank mechanism (do I need anything more than the new Bell Crank PN# 97034 and the Failsafe Rod PN# 97000,) to fit my old style 550?
After 17 years of use, this has been the only problem I have had with the machine. One of the most reliable and useful products I have ever bought.
Thanks for any advice that you may have.

Quote from Reloader on December 15, 2012, 4:36 pmIf you read through the forum, I've seen several people talk about taking the primer assembly apart and polishing the bar and the return channel. I had the similar problem, and I ended up taking dremmel tool with a buffing wheel to the bar and channel and polished them up good. It made a huge difference.
Mine sat idle for a couple of years, so I actually tore down the whole assembly, cleaned the pins and shafts, then relubed and reassembled, and now it's as good as the day I bought it (8-9 years ago).
If something has been outdated by a new design, call Dillon. You might be suprised (positivly) with what they tell you. When in doubt, Call Dillon. They're the best support that I've ever seen in America!

I took it apart and shined it all up with fine sand paper it worked great for 500 rounds then yesterday it started hanging up again . Is it the powder or the Machine and is there a fix? Bob M
