still having problems
Quote from Reloader on March 8, 2011, 12:54 pmi'm still having problems with 45 acp. i got a set of rcbs taper crimp dies and tried them out. i'm seating and crimping in different stages but i'm still getting about a half dozen out of a hundred that will not fit into the case gauge. it's like the case has a bulge in it. the cases length is fine. what else could be wrong? most of the cases are PERFECT but some are not even close to fitting.

Quote from Reloader on March 8, 2011, 3:41 pmHow far to the cases go into the gage? If all but the rim fits, see if the rim enters backwards. If it won't, then the rim is distorted. these are okay to shoot. A crimped case mouth should measure .469-.471".

Quote from Reloader on March 8, 2011, 5:21 pmthey stop about 1/4" from going all the way in. i haven't measured the mouth of a case. why should some be great and some be lousy?

Quote from Reloader on March 28, 2011, 7:46 pmHi,
Is the sizing/depriming die adjusted all the way down so it sizes the whole case? What brand case gauge do you use? (some brands have very tight tolerances)
I had a problem which sounds similar to yours except with .40S&W.
The problem with mine was that using mixed range brass, some of the brass walls are thicker than others. Then when I load them with lead bullets, the overall diameter on some parts of the case becomes a little "fat" like it's bulging. My solution was to use the lee factory crimp die since it crimps and sizes the whole finished cartridge back closer to factory specs.
You might try removing the decapping pin and resize the finished cartridge with a sizing die if you happen to have a spare one. I haven't tried that before, but theoretically it might work.
