Suddenly seating bullets too deep?
Quote from Reloader on March 6, 2012, 12:05 pmAnyone know what would make my SDB suddenly start seating bullets too deep? I load 45ACP with 200gr SWC. For some reason, the "shoulder" of the bullet is now being countersunk below the edge of the case. I didn't make any adjustments at station 3. I did recently remove the shell plate to recover a runaway primer but that is all.
Any advice?

Quote from Reloader on March 7, 2012, 3:07 amYour advice was spot on. The die was packed full of crud. No wonder the bullets were seating too deep. I removed the die, soaked it in solvent for about 30 mins, then used a dental pick to dislodge the stuck gunk. I reinstalled the clean die and made a few adjustment to get back to a 1.255" COAL. Perfect!
Thanks again chief!!!

Quote from Reloader on March 7, 2012, 1:05 pmGlad you just removed the die. Did you happen to notice any lead shavings? If so, increase your belling slightly. Slightly.

Quote from Reloader on March 7, 2012, 1:36 pmWill do. Now that you mention it, I can see how too little belling with result in excessive shavings...leading to the problem I had. Thanks bro!

Quote from Reloader on March 29, 2012, 10:38 amTry cleaning the seating die. If you have a lube buildup on it, that makes it "longer", thus seating deeper in the case.
