Terrible crimp
Quote from Reloader on March 30, 2018, 12:38 pmI recently bought a Dillon SL900 press. Unfortunately, i am very disappointed with the quality of the finished cartridges.
The starcrimp opens again after a while by itself. After one hour the shotshell does not fit any longer into my shotgun!! So a roll crimper has to take place at my bench!! What's wrong?? The whole thing does not look like very professional made! For used shotshells the press is ok…
Hulls: Nobel 12/70 T4
Wad: Cheddite Aquilla T6
Shot: 7,5 28 grams
Powder: Maxam CSB5 21,6 grs
Density: 490 g/L

Quote from Reloader on March 30, 2018, 5:16 pmIf the star crimp is pushing up after the round sits for a while, then your powder/wad/shot combination is not correct. Most likely the wad is being overcompressed, and is pushing upward after sitting. Does this only happen with new hulls, or also with used hulls? New hulls want to open up as they lack any memory of being closed.

Quote from Reloader on March 31, 2018, 10:08 amThis only happens with new hulls. The used hulls have a memory... There is still enough space to load more. When I shake the cartridge I hear the shot. So the WAD can not be compressed. If only I could send pictures of the result. If i adjust the crimper-die to deep ,to get a better result, the hull will be crushed.

Quote from Reloader on April 5, 2018, 9:41 pmSo, that`s the end!! I give up setting up the final crimp! New hulls..no chance, used were working reasonably satisfactory... The result ist not acceptable at all!! I destroyed nearly 200 hulls for nothing while trying to set it up... The press is sold, thankfully!!
I am very disappointed !!
Sorry!!
The powder/WAD/shot combination, 24 grams, 12/70, works in every shotshell in europe!!Maybe Dillen has an idea?...

Quote from Reloader on April 6, 2018, 1:15 pmJust a guess. The new hulls may not have been skived (shived). Or not skived adequately for reloading. Do you have a tool for skiving shells yourself? Or reconditioning the mouth of the shotshells?
That's what I would have tried with the new hulls. Even if the manufacturer said they were skived and I had a problem, I would have searched out a tool.
