Toolhead storage

I have a few different toolheads for my RL550C, with dies already set up and ready to go. How should I store them when not being used? I've been just keeping them in small cardboard boxes. Not sure if the toolhead and dies should get a light coat of oil while they are not being used?

I store most of my small items and handloading tools including tool heads with dies attached in this Harbor Freight cart.

It keeps things organized and in one location. There is not enough room to store the powder measure attached to the tool head. It's surprising how many goodies will fit.

Plus, you can close and lock the lid and drawers to keep curious fingers out.

Do you apply any oil or anything?

I already have a workbench with a drawers and compartments for storage, I keep the toolheads inside, in cardboard boxes. I just don't know if I should take extra steps to protect them beyond that.

If you don't expect to use the dies within 6 months or so, and you live in a humid area, apply a light coating of automotive paste wax to the exterior of the dies to prevent rust. The car wax acts as a moisture barrier.

I have begun to use Birchwood Casey's Barricade spray; however, I don't have enough history to know how well it works over time.

I have had dies I assembled with lubricants on the threads and left alone for a few decades where the lube dried and acted like a bizarre form of Loctite (Blue). Honestly, I can't remember if I had assembled these with an anti-seize or not. They had been stored in heavy-duty Ziploc plastic bags and placed on a shelf in a bedroom closet. I have been cleaning the threads with a wire brush and then applying gun grease in hopes that it would work better, and they are now in my storage cabinet.

Once in storage, there would be no reason to touch the dies with bare hands until used again.

Note: the powder funnels will corrode if not attended to prior to storage. Clean, protect and store in the plastic conversion container.

Underbin bracket for toolhead docks.

This is what I use. If you have the wall space to mount it. Love mine.

I store mine on some original wood Dillon holders and some of the aluminum types on a metal wire rack shelf.

Bought the plastic bottoms from eBay and added the clear plastic cover for the shelf to protect from the salt air here on the coast.
