updating a RL-450
Quote from Reloader on March 29, 2011, 12:35 pmI recently purchased a RL-450 and it of course is missing several items. It is missing a powder measure, shell plate and conversion to any specific caliber. It has had an auto primer system added and a drop chute for the finished cartridge. I toyed with the possibility of sending it to the factory for refurbishing and upgrading but then thought it a simple undertaking to do it myself with a little guidance from those in the know.
Attached are a few photos. I would appreciate any assistance anyone is willing to offer especially those from Dillon.
I did send an email requesting the same prior to seeing the forum on the website. However, I think perhaps the forum may be preferred or faster.
Thanks,
Dave Y.

The automatic powder measure system is easy to add, and the frame change does not require any special skills; the frame kit includes the required punch and platform alignment tool. It usually takes less than an hour to change them, including wiping off parts and relubing them.
Frame kit#20094 $92.95
Powder system with failsafe return #20251 $86.95

I upgraded one of my 450's to a 550... easy to convert from a good to a super machine! I have another 450 that I do not want to convert, as it is dedicated to one caliber. This is a real old machine. The parts for it are not available any more. Dillon was kind enough to send me some upgraded parts for it, but the casting will not allow it to fit the frame. If you upgrade and have no plans for your old frame... perhaps we could work something out... say I take it off of your hands for shipping and a little brass or something?
Let me know
Tom

If the part that won't fit is the primer feed body, then all that is necessary is to take a hacksaw and cut off the front of the left foot of the base, being sure to leave the threaded hole intact. Use the old base as a template to see how much material has to be removed, but it isn't very much. One minute with a saw and it's done.
