Watch out for flying primers!

I have a small problem with capturing spent primers in the small bin underneath station 1 of my 650xl. About 50% of them fly out and end up on my bench or on the floor. This wasn't a concern before when my production was low but now as I have got into about 3 calibers they are piling up. Does any one have any ideas how to get this under control. I know there are some thrifty (outside the box) thinkers who have have come up with a solution to this problem?

Try turning the cup around. The little extenson tip should be facing the machine.

I have the same problem. I do have the cup in the correct way. I have tried foam, cardboard, little plastic ramp type things but it dosen't get any better. At the end of a loading session( about 800-1000 rds.) there are about 50 spent primers on my shop floor. Annoying!

How old is your machine? Is the platform made of steel or alloy?

When the platform was redesigned about 12 or so years ago, the platform was thickened, material changed from steel to an alloy, and the spent primer catcher reworked.

MINE IS THE NEWER ALLOY.

My XL650 has the alloy platform. The only time I notice any quantity of spent primers on the shop floor is when I forget to empty the little bin and they start running over.

I get this question quite a bit." How come primers always pop out all over my work bench and floor? " So this is my quick fix, I use blue tape to cover up the opening around the front, It's Miller blue but it works.  LOL

To bad we can't post pictures

Gun Smoke

I'm a little late on this thread, but hope fully others will benefit.

I removed the tin frame work that the blue cup sits in. Then I modified a 300 Win Short mag shell, basically grinding it slightly thinner in DIA and in rim depth. Then I drilled a larger hole in the primer pocket big enough for large spent primers to 'fall' thru easily. Slip it into the tin frame (rim up) and bolt it in place. Add a flexible clear section of hose to the case mouth and bingo.... problem solved. I use a plastic water bottle with bracket from a pedal bike for the primers to collect in. Approx. 5K rds with no problems. The clear hose lets you see if any primers happen to get stuck. I thought about getting a package together and selling it outright, but I'd rather spend more time reloading than shipping. Dillon should add this super easy plan to the machine as standard. Enjoy!
