What does upgrading 550B to 550C do?
Quote from Reloader on February 13, 2017, 8:48 pmWhat does upgrading the 550B to a 550C conversion kit do for the press? I just noticed that there was a modification to the press recently and was wondering if I should upgrade my good ole 550B. I currently reload 9mm, 38 special/357 mag, 45 acp, and 223/5.56. More calibers in the future like 270 Win.

Quote from Reloader on February 14, 2017, 4:04 pmThe design change was to a new design for the upper link arm pivot pins. On your frame, these pins are pressed in. The new design has threaded pins, so they screw into the frame. These pins have a lube groove and a hole in the center. You use a needle fitting on a grease gun to lubricate them. Additionally, if a link arm breaks, it is now no longer necessary to remove the shaft from the machine to replace the link arm.
No other significant design change or benefit, other than maintenance.

Quote from Reloader on February 14, 2017, 9:32 pmThank you! Although that could save realigning the platform, I like to take it down every couple of years and clean and relube. So by aligning on reassembly, it helps keep things running smoothly. I've done about 13k rounds through mine and don't see me cracking an arm anytime soon.

Quote from Reloader on March 16, 2018, 12:47 pmSo does upgrading a 550b to a 550c require the frame replacement (20094)?
There is a claim, lacking details, that it can be done for $48 of parts, vs. the $110 cost of 20094, and I’d like to understand the difference, before I spend the cash.
