XL650 Primer Problems

I received my first Dillon press, the XL-650 less than two weeks ago. It came set-up for 40 S&W. Out of the box, the rotary primer disc would not increment correctly, stopping about 3/4 of the way to the next detent. I had to rotate it by hand the remainder of the way. I am using Remington primers, but also tried Federal with the same results. After looking at how the primer system works, it seemed that the primer indexing arm wasn't pushing the disc far enough. I then noticed that the indexing arm spring was not installed properly, but was bent up and outside of the housing. I took the primer assembly apart and inserted the spring into the opening in the side of the primer feedbody. Once everything was reassembled, I tried again with the same results. I called Technical Support and explained the problem to Gail. She said she would put a new primer indexing arm and spring in the mail to me. I am still waiting for them. While waiting, I went ahead and tried loading some shells and turning the primer disc by hand. Although slow, it still worked. I then noticed that sometimes the press would hang up on the down stroke. I could apply a little more force and it would complete the cycle. I guess I did this one too many times because the part of the primer indexing arm that is bent down to interface with the primer disc broke off. Apparently something is adjusted or installed correctly in the primer assembly. Hopefully the new arm and spring will take care of the problem. In the meantime, if anyone has had the same issue, please let me know how you resolved it.

The new spring and arm should correct this. Be sure to lightly grease the interior of the arm where the axle pin goes down through it.

you are not pushing the hanlde fowared to the stop each time. the the auto indexing is not working... ALL the way up... All the way down and FOWARD. ALL the way.
