XL750 Tuneup and Tricks
Quote from Reloader on August 24, 2019, 7:55 pmHad my new XL750 press for a few weeks now.
And found a few problems, like most of the new users to the 750There are primer feed issue's that are troublesome and annoying. But with Time taken to analyze them they can be quickly solved.
Problem:
1. Primer slide not going rearward far enough to pickup the primers from the primer tube.
Solution:
Bend the primer operating rod in two places where the factory bends are to allow the rod to push the primer slide all the way rearward.2nd problem:
The primer slide is sticking on the primer feed body sometimes and some cases are not being primed, and this spills powder all over the press, Making a mess.
Cause: the large primer roller is dragging on the primer feed body.
Solution # 1. Bend the primer operating rod to the right in several places to force the large roller to ride away from the primer slide and the primer feed body when cycling the press handle.
Result: this worked well....
Better more permanent solution #2
I used an .250 Diameter Od spring with a .024 Wire diameter cut to length to put enough tension to keep the large primer roller away from the primer feed body.
did both solutions # 1, 2 together for a more permanent solution.
I think the # 2 spring solution is the best way but make sure you are not fighting the operating rod alignment being out too far, better to get this close first then use the spring to ensure the roller never contacts the primer feed body again. 😊
DILLON I HOPE YOU TAKE NOTICE TO THIS SOLUTION ESPECIALLY #2
In previous posts I talked about some indexing problems with taller Rifle cartridges, and case whip resulting in spilled powder when the case is nearly full of powder.
I installed a Delrin index ball in place of the steel ball used by Dillon under the index plate along with a Flat Torrington Bearing sandwiched between two hardened flat washers and installed between the shell plate bolt and shell plate,
I packed this bearing tightly with Lubri-plate grease and tightened to DILLONS spec
My shell plate rotation is extremely smooth, fluid like and comes to a stop like it has shock absorbers on it at each station. Shell plate wobble is non existent now. 😁,
Problem Solved:
I have pictures of the above mods if anyone is interested?Lighting or visability while operating the press and seeing if your case has powder in it before topping with a bullet is hard without proper lighting.
I just bought a Hi intensity LED press light specifically made for the XL 650/750...press by... inIine Fabrication from Midway USA, will be here next week. Go online to .www.inlinefabrication.com.
The main LED light fits in the center toohead And is easily removable when changing toolheads. And there is a 6 LED strip that attaches to one of the vertical press sides too.
And Check out their product videos and reviews.
This solution is exceptional a bargain for 38.00 and has a lifetime warranty as well.
